Having been an integral part of both the New York City and London scenes for many years, the Dublin born vocalist and songwriter is now based in Northwest Roscommon. Her unique, rich sound was described by The Guardian as ‘Tobin’s 24 carat voice’. Her expressive range acknowledges finely acquired jazz, folk and twentieth century European art song influences. MOJO Music Magazine said of her, “Christine Tobin really transcends glib genre-fiction…..everything is shot through with an unmistakable refinement, free-spirited earthiness and giddy romanticism, this singer-songwriter is in a field of one". The Irish Times wrote, “Tobin has followed a studiously personal path as a singer and songwriter that has won her the kind of accolades only bestowed on a few… This rare and thoroughly personal artist is a one-off…”. Her live show ‘A Thousand Kisses Deep’, won a prestigious ‘Herald Angel Award’ at the Edinburgh Fringe. Earlier in her career she won a BASCA British Composer Award for her settings of WB Yeats, also “Jazz Vocalist of the Year” at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and “Best Vocalist” at the BBC Jazz Awards. Christine & her partner Phil Robson curated their own very successful music series ‘Tobin’s Run on 51’, which ran for over two years in NYC at the Irish Arts Center. The artists she has worked with include musicians, Julian Joseph, Django Bates, Ingrid Jensen, Cora Venus Lunny, Dezron Douglas, Dayna Stephens, Jim Ridl, Matt Brewer & David Power; poets Paul Muldoon, Eva Salzman, Don Paterson; actor Gabriel Byrne & film director Mike Figgis. Recent performances include the London Jazz Festival Nov 2023 with her Returning Weather band and August 2023 at the Martin Hayes curated Masters of Tradition festival, Bantry House.
